An acquisition target, a board’s doubts, a customer that could walk. Strategy work rests on information that must not leak. Forethos protects it in five layers, each on its own, so that a failure in one does not open the others.
LAYER 1
Who can enter
Access- Users join only by invitation from their own administrator; nobody can sign up.
- Each engagement is open only to its owner and the members they add. External advisers get access until an end date.
- Passwords are stored only as strong hashes. Every sign-in attempt is logged; repeated failures slow an account down and block the address.
- The console for Outdoor Connect’s operators sits behind an e-mail code and a passkey.
LAYER 2
How data travels
Transport- Forethos has no open ports on the internet: it is reached only through an encrypted tunnel.
- Every connection is encrypted. Your installation and Outdoor Connect’s Control Plane recognise each other by certificate, from Forethos’s own certificate authority.
- A licence works only on the installation it was issued for.
LAYER 3
Where data rests
Storage- The disks of every machine are encrypted, and so is every backup.
- Consultations, evidence, deliverables, engagement names and the audit are encrypted per engagement, each with its own key. A breach of storage yields nothing readable.
- Your organisation can hold the key itself, with a passphrase Forethos never stores. After every restart your work stays locked until your administrator unlocks it; on dedicated hardware, not even Outdoor Connect can open it before then.
- Operational logs record only that something happened (times, counts, errors), never what was asked or answered.
LAYER 4
Who processes it
Models- Business API agreements with Anthropic and OpenAI: no training on what you send, kept for at most 30 days for abuse monitoring, zero retention where a provider approves it.
- Per organisation and per engagement you decide which providers may receive anything.
- Bring your own API keys, or ask for other models, providers or processing regions.
LAYER 5
What remains visible
Accountability- Every answer is written to a local audit before anyone sees it. If the record cannot be written, the answer is withheld.
- A deliverable reaches the client only when an adviser endorses it, with name and date.
- Outdoor Connect receives usage figures only. Never a question, an answer, a document or an engagement’s name.
- The Outdoor Connect Canon arrives encrypted for one session at a time and is held in memory only.

Three ways to run Forethos
Every organisation works in a Forethos Runtime: the installation that holds its consultations, evidence, deliverables and audit. What differs is who else shares it.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Forethos for?
For advisers, executives and boards who work on strategic choices: growth, acquisitions, dependencies on partners or governments, and the commitments that follow. It is built first for mid-sized companies, where Outdoor Connect works.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. Forethos uses the providers’ business APIs, whose terms exclude training on what you send. The providers keep it for at most 30 days, for abuse monitoring only.
Which AI models does Forethos use?
Models from Anthropic and, where you allow it, OpenAI. Forethos picks the model per counsel; other models are available on request.
Can we use our own API keys?
Yes. The agreement and the billing then run directly between you and the provider.
Can Forethos run on hardware of its own?
Yes. A private Runtime on dedicated hardware serves your organisation alone. See the three ways to run Forethos.
How does Forethos relate to Outdoor Connect?
Outdoor Connect builds and runs Forethos, and its doctrine is the Canon Forethos works from. Advice that carries Outdoor Connect’s name is always endorsed by one of its advisers.
